In this quick guide, we’ll show you our favorite spots to eat every time we visit.

Livingstone, Zambia

Livingstone has a surprisingly robust restaurant scene for such a small, sleepy town.

Most visitors don’t leave their hotels when it’s time to eat. They’re missing out. So, don’t make the same mistake and add these 11 restaurants to your itinerary.

1. Kubu Cafe

Kubu Cafe in Livingstone is a popular spot for Livingstone locals and people visiting for work or travel. Known for its tasty pastries and aromatic coffee, the cafe provides a perfect start to any morning, an ideal location for a relaxed business lunch, or a great place to catch up with a big group of friends.

There’s also a small supermarket stocking locally produced food and souvenirs to take home with you.

2. Kalai Restaurant at David Livingstone Safari Lodge

Nestled on the banks of the Zambezi River, within the prestigious David Livingstone Safari Lodge, Kalai Restaurant offers a menu inspired by the diverse cultures of Africa.

The serene ambiance, accentuated by traditional decor and soft lighting (if you come in the evening), ensures a rejuvenating and relaxing dining experience in harmony with the slow pace of river life.

3. Olga’s The Italian Corner

Olga’s – The Italian Corner exudes the warmth and comfort of a quaint trattoria from Italy’s charming countryside. This inviting spot has garnered a reputation for delivering plates teeming with the flavors of authentic Italian cuisine. Every freshly baked focaccia and pasta dish dripping in sumptuous sauces embodies Olga’s passion for tradition and quality.

Crafted using a blend of fresh, local ingredients and age-old recipes, a meal at Olga’s promises a delightful slice of Italy in the heart of Zambia.

4. Cafe Zambezi

Cafe Zambezi is a delightful and lively garden restaurant in the heart of Livingstone. It doesn’t look like much from the outside. But once you enter, you’ll be treated to a fusion of hearty Zambian, African, and Caribbean dishes, local music, and a vibrant atmosphere.

5. The Golden Leaf

The Golden Leaf Indian restaurant stands as a testament to the rich history of Zambia’s South Asian community, which has roots in Livingstone going back over 100 years.

The menu boasts diverse aromatic curries, sizzling tandoori specialties, and delightful vegetarian dishes. Coupled with a warm ambiance and attentive service, Golden Leaf ensures a gastronomic journey that is both memorable and indulgent.

Don’t forget, Indian food is best when it’s shared, so come with a big group to make the most of your experience.

6. The Old Farmhouse

10 minutes south of Livingstone, down a winding dirt road, The Old Farmhouse exudes rustic rural charm. In the evening, you’ll be welcomed with a crackling fire pit and the smell of delicious pub grub (that’s also very cheap).

As the name suggests, The Old Farmhouse offers an idyllic, relaxed farm setting that’s a perennial favorite with locals and in-the-know visitors. Come on Fridays to enjoy some live music under the stars.
